Mobile Referral Diagnostic Ultrasound Services
Prairie Sounds Mobile Veterinary Ultrasound offers advanced mobile referral diagnostic ultrasound services (abdominal, thoracic, orthopedic, echocardiogram) for veterinary hospitals in Greater Minnesota and Eastern North Dakota. Specialist consultations are included with every scan including ABVP, ACVIM and ACVIM- Cardiology, ACVECC.
Diagnostic ultrasound of the abdomen, chest, small parts/musculoskeletal tissues and echocardiograms can be done in your practice and are an important tool to screen for disease or confirm a diagnosis without a long car ride to a specialty center. We at Prairie Sounds strongly support our local specialists and value their expertise! However in many cases pets and their people are unable to travel such distances due to our more rural region for advanced consultations and ultrasound – and that is where we fit in!

Information for Pet Owners (For Your Reference): What to Expect During an Ultrasound
While our mobile ultrasound service is a referral-only offering for veterinary clinics, we believe in empowering pet owners with knowledge. If your veterinarian has recommended an ultrasound for your beloved pet, here’s a general overview of what you can expect:
- Preparation: Depending on the type of ultrasound, your pet may need to fast for a certain period before the procedure to ensure optimal image quality, especially for abdominal scans. Your veterinarian will provide specific instructions.
- Comfort and Safety: Ultrasounds are non-invasive and generally painless. Most pets tolerate the procedure well, often with just gentle restraint. Sedation may be recommended for anxious pets or those requiring very precise imaging.
- The Procedure: The fur over the area of interest will be clipped to allow for good contact with the ultrasound probe. A special gel will be applied to the skin, and Dr. Krell will gently move the probe over the area of interest to capture images.
- Results: The images will be reviewed by a specialist and send a report back in about 1 business day (sooner for STAT/emergency consults). Then your veterinarian will discuss the findings and next steps with you.
